I have begun to struggle with some fear. Suddenly it occurred to me, if I am struggling as an adult with all the facts, a Christian of 20 years, and a pastor's wife;  how much more must my children be experiencing fear? It moved my heart.

Then the Lord reminded me of the verses that speak of His care for the birds.

In this housebound time, we have taken up bird watching as a way to keep ourselves occupied and fill evening moments. The variety and personalities of the birds is amazing and so is the fact that they don't have a care or worry.

If our bird feeder happens to run empty, the birds don't go into a panic and start tapping on the window. They know their needs are met without our help.

When the sun doesn't shine for several days they don't sit on branches depressed and stop singing. They know that spring is marching forward and they prepare for the spring rituals that have gone on since their creation.

And as I thought of the Scriptures about the birds and then thought about the character of the birds it dawned upon me, what a perfect way to teach my little people (and myself) not to fear.

If God will care for the birds who neither sow nor reap (Matthew 6:26-34) and if He is concerned with a small Sparrow that falls to the earth (Matthew 10:29), surely He sees us in this frightening situation and has compassion. And more than compassion; He has a plan to meet our needs in this time and knows how everything will be resolved.

So take these thoughts and maybe use them to encourage your little ones not to fear (and yourself as well!). Read the scripture about His care for the birds, do some bird watching of your own, and maybe tackle a craft. Kids always seem to remember a lesson better if it involves paint or glue!
